Local authorities are staffed by people who do not always know the community well, they don’t have the opportunity to meet residents and they don’t always live in the areas affected by the decisions they make. 

The Coalition Government  is giving us greater opportunity (but also responsibility) to take part in decisions which affect us – so let’s help officers and councillors make decisions in our best interest, not on the basis of dry facts and statistics.

We understand that active involvement depends on:

• what information you have access to
• your willingness to give your opinion

In the recent local consultation, a number of people told us that they were overwhelmed by the complexity of information so we have prepared a digest to help with the first point.  The second is up to you.
